Writing at Air and Space Academy

Here at Air and Space Academy, the students in each grade have two

different forms of writing. The first thing they do at the beginning of the day

is to practice writing sentences that deal with specific sentence types, such as

a semicolon statement or a compare and contrast statement. The second type

of writing they do is to write an essay every week. Each week is a different

topic, like A Friendly Letter or Informative Essay. When writing an essay,

one Monday the students start with a web of big ideas, on Tuesday, they take

three of those big ideas and expound on them, this is called a “T” Chart. On

Wednesday, they write sentences for the ideas, on Thursday they put the

sentences in rough draft form. Friday, the students have the final draft of the

essay completed.
